The Tamil Nadu Government 1000 Rupees Scheme, officially called the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, provides monthly income support to eligible women heads of families in Tamil Nadu. Under this scheme, ₹1,000 is transferred every month directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts to promote financial independence and household security.

What is Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme?

The Tamil Nadu (TN) Government launched the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (Kalaignar Scheme for Right of Women), or 1000 Rupees scheme, in Kancheepuram, the hometown of C N Annadurai on his birth anniversary on 15 September 2023.

Under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, the TN Government provides financial assistance of ₹1,000 every month to the women residents of Tamil Nadu. 

• The TN Government will deposit ₹1,000 to the eligible beneficiaries in their bank accounts through a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). 
• The TN government also issued ATM cards to eligible women to withdraw the allocated amount as needed. 

Since the financial assistance is directly transferred into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts, it ensures a streamlined and efficient distribution process. The Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme is beneficial in improving the living standard of the citizens of Tamil Nadu.

Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme Rules

To receive ₹1,000 every month under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, the following household and beneficiary rules apply:

• Under the 1000 Rupees Scheme, the government provides ₹1,000 to only the women head of the family. 
• Only one woman from the family, i.e. the woman head of the family, can get ₹1,000 every month. 
• The woman named as the head of the family in the ration card is considered as the woman head of the family. 
• When the ration card or family card specifies a male as the head of the family, the wife of the male head of the family mentioned in the ration card is considered as the woman head of the family. 
• The woman head of the family will receive ₹1,000 in her registered bank account every month.

Tamil Nadu 1000 Rupees Scheme Eligibility

• All women and transgenders residing in Tamil Nadu above 21 years are eligible. 
• Unmarried women and widows who are heads of their households are eligible under this scheme. 
• The annual family income of the woman applicant must be below ₹2.5 lakh. 
• The woman’s family should not own more than 10 acres of dry land or five acres of wetland.
• The annual household power consumption of the woman should be below 3,600 units.
• The woman’s family should not have a car or four-wheeler.
• The wives of government employees (both State and Central Government), bank employees, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), income taxpayers, pensioners, professional taxpayers, and elected representatives of local bodies are not eligible for the scheme. 

How to Apply for the 1000 Rupees Scheme in Tamil Nadu Online?

The online registration for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme started on 15 September 2023. The steps to apply for the 1000 Rupees Scheme are as follows:

Step 1: Visit the KMUT website. 

Step 2: On the home page, click the ‘Login’ button. 

Step 3: Enter the user ID and password and click on the application for the 1000 Rupee Scheme Application Form/Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Application Form.

Step 4: Enter the required details on the application, upload the required documents and click the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 5: Take a printout of the Tamil Nadu 1000 Rupees Scheme Application Form for future reference.

Women can also visit nearby ration shops to get the 1000 Rupee Scheme Application Form/Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Application Form. They can fill out and submit the application form at the ration shops. The ration shops will forward the applications to the government.

Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme Status Check

To check the status of your Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme application, follow the steps below:

• Visit the Tamil Nadu e-District website.  
• Select Application Number. 
• Enter the Application ID, name and date of birth and click the ‘Get Status’ button. 
• The status of the application will be displayed on the screen.

Tamil Nadu 1000 Rupees Scheme Not Credited 

When the applicants have applied for the 1000 Rupees Scheme, but the amount is not credited, it means that their applications are rejected. The TN Government rejected around 57 lakh Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Application Forms. An SMS will be sent to people whose applications were rejected with the relevant reason for the rejection. 

Applicants whose applications have been rejected can file an appeal within 30 days from the SMS receipt date. Appeals can be made through the e-sevai centre. The Revenue Commissioner will act as the appellate officer. 

How to Reapply for the Tamil Nadu 1000 Rupees Scheme?

Applicants whose Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme applications were rejected or not submitted earlier can reapply through authorised government channels.

Reapplication process:

• Visit the nearest e-Sevai centre or designated ration shop in Tamil Nadu.
• Submit a fresh application with updated or corrected details.
• Attach all required documents again for verification.
• The application will be re-examined by the Revenue Department based on eligibility criteria.

If approved after re-verification, the ₹1,000 monthly assistance will be credited to the beneficiary’s bank account through DBT.
