Unclaimed deposits are bank accounts or term deposits which have not been claimed for at least a decade. Bank of Baroda (BoB) has uploaded the details of its unclaimed deposits online. Sometimes, the account owner passes away, and their family or legal heirs do not come forward to claim the money from the bank. Banks list these unclaimed deposits on their websites, including some details. They ask the public to check the list and get in touch with the bank to claim the money.
Keep reading below to learn how to claim Bank of Baroda unclaimed deposits.
Bank of Baroda unclaimed deposits are money left in the bank account for a long time. This happens when people do not use their savings or current accounts for 10 years or forget to claim their fixed-term deposits within 10 years after they mature. The bank then moves this money to a fund managed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). If you have any unclaimed deposits, you can still get them back from the Bank of Baroda.
Even though banks and the RBI regularly tell people about these unclaimed deposits, their number is increasing. This is mostly because some accounts, like savings or current ones, stay open when the owner doesn't want to close them. Also, some people forget to claim the money from matured fixed-term deposits.
Bank of Baroda transfers unclaimed deposits to the Reserve Bank of India’s Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund.
Bank of Baroda had unclaimed deposits worth Rs. 3,904 crore by the end of February 2023.
