The Central Bank of India (CBI) has a huge customer base, and understandably, maintains a huge number of accounts of customers, that includes savings, fixed deposits, term deposits, etc.
Many Central Bank accounts have become Unclaimed deposits due to long periods of inactivity (more than 10 years to be precise, for reasons best known to respective account owners). But these accounts still hold unclaimed deposits with them.
In this blog, we aim to briefly explain to you the process of claiming Central Bank of India unclaimed deposits.
Central Bank of India Unclaimed deposits are savings and current accounts which have not been used for 10 years, or term deposits which have not been claimed for 10 years since maturity.
This means no money has been added or taken out, and the account holder has not talked to the bank about the account. Moreover, the bank tries to reach the account owner, but if they cannot, the money is later sent to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Depositor Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF).
Suppose, your savings accounts at CBI are left inactive (no deposits or withdrawals made), or say, balances in CBI’s fixed or term deposit accounts are not claimed within ten years from the date of maturity. Then, as per the provisions under Section 26A of the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2012, those deposits should be transferred to the DEAF (Depositor Education and Awareness Fund), established and maintained by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
However, account owners of those inoperative accounts or other claimants (in case of the account owner’s death) can claim a refund of their unclaimed deposits by filling out and submitting a ‘Claim Form’.
Claimants can access this ‘Claim Form’ easily from CBI’s official website.
CBI unclaimed deposits lists contain names and addresses of customers who hold inoperative accounts at CBI and have not claimed their deposited amounts for more than 10 years from the account’s maturity date. Customers can find the most recently updated unclaimed deposit lists on CBI’s official website.
