Unclaimed deposits, or inactive accounts, refer to savings or current accounts with no customer activity for ten years or more. This also includes fixed deposits that remain unclaimed after their maturity date for ten years or longer.
This article provides information on how to check, reactivate, and claim HDFC unclaimed deposits. Read on to learn about the necessary forms, documents required, and other important details regarding the process.
Unclaimed deposits refer to balances in term deposit accounts that remain unclaimed for 10 years after the maturity date, or balances in current/savings accounts that have not been operated for 10 years.
If savings accounts remain inactive (with no deposits or withdrawals), or if balances in fixed or term deposit accounts are not claimed within seven years from the maturity date, they must be transferred to the IEPF (Investor Education and Protection Fund), as per Section 125 (2) of the Companies Act, 2013.
If the deposit is transferred to the IEPF, account holders can claim the amount online by submitting Application Form IEPF 5 (as per Section 125 (3) of the Companies Act, 2013, and Rule 7 of the IEPF Rules). Claimants can easily file this refund application through the official IEPF website.
If the deposit has not yet been transferred to the IEPF, you can still collect it directly from HDFC Bank within seven years of maturity.
An owner (or another claimant in case of a deceased owner) of an inoperative HDFC account can search for the unclaimed deposit list on the official UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits Gateway to Access Information) portal.
To access the details, the claimant must register, log in, and search for unclaimed deposit information by entering basic details of the account owner, such as ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN), address proof, name, and date of birth.
You can check HDFC unclaimed deposits through HDFC Bank’s Unclaimed Deposits Enquiry page. To search, enter your name, select the relevant detail, and provide the deposit number, PAN, or date of birth. Enter the captcha code and click on ‘Get Account Info’. If you have any unclaimed deposits, they will be displayed on the screen.
