The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme 2024, a scholarship scheme for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students to pursue higher studies. This scheme awards scholarships to meritorious students belonging to the ESW category to provide them with better opportunities for higher education and employment.

What is Golden Jubilee Scholarship?

The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is a scholarship scheme launched by the LIC that promotes financial literacy and encourages meritorious students belonging to EWS to pursue higher education in various fields such as engineering, medical, commerce, science, etc. 

Under this scheme, scholarships are provided to meritorious students from EWS studying in a government or private college or university in India. It also covers technical and vocational courses in Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) or Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and Integrated Courses after XII Standard.

This scheme awards two types of scholarships - general scholarship and special scholarship for girl children.  

Who is eligible for Golden Jubilee Scholarship?

Here are the eligibility criteria for the scholarships awarded under this scheme: 

General Scholarship 

1. After Class 12th (XII): 

  • Candidates must have passed class XII (or its equivalent - regular or vocational) or Diploma with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA grade in the academic years 2021-22, 2022-23, or 2023-24. 
  • Candidates must have taken admission in the academic year 2024-25 to pursue first-year degree courses in the field of medicine, engineering, diploma courses in any field, integrated courses, graduation in any discipline or other equivalent courses, vocational courses through government-recognised institutes/ colleges or Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) courses. 
  • Candidates’ parents or guardians must have an annual income (from all sources) of less than Rs.2,50,000 per annum. However, if a woman (widow, unmarried or single mother) is the sole bread earner of the family, the annual income limit is Rs.4,00,000 per annum instead of Rs.2,50,000. 

2. After Class 10th (X): 

  • Candidates must have passed the class X exam (or its equivalent) with at least 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA grade in the academic years 2021-22, 2022-23, or 2023-24. 
  • Candidates must have taken admission in the academic year 2024-25 to pursue first-year education in vocational or diploma courses through government-recognised colleges/ institutions or Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) courses. 
  • Candidates’ parents or guardians must have an annual income (from all sources) of less than Rs.2,50,000 per annum. However, if a woman (widow, unmarried or single mother) is the sole bread earner of the family, the annual income limit is Rs.4,00,000 per annum instead of Rs.2,50,000.  

Special Scholarship for Girl Child (For Two Years) 

  • Candidates must be females who have passed the class X exam (or its equivalent) with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA grade in the academic years 2021- 2022, 2022-23 or 2023-24. 
  • Candidates must have taken admission in the academic year 2024-25 to pursue higher studies in the first year of intermediate, 10 + 2 pattern, vocational/ diploma courses through government-recognised colleges/ institutions or Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) courses for two years.
  • Candidates’ parents or guardians must have an annual income (from all sources) of less than Rs.2,50,000 per annum. However, if a woman (widow, unmarried or single mother) is the sole bread earner of the family, the annual income limit is Rs.4,00,000 per annum instead of Rs.2,50,000.

The following candidates are not eligible for scholarships under this scheme:

  • Candidates pursuing a course through part-time (evening or night) classes, correspondence or open universities. 
  • Candidates who are already receiving scholarships from other trusts or institutions are not eligible. However, candidates who are receiving scholarships from the government (state or central) at the time of selection or after being selected under this scheme are eligible. 
  • Candidates pursuing post-graduation studies.

What is the amount of LIC Scholarship?

Here is the amount of scholarship provided under the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme:

General Scholarship 

Medical Courses

A scholarship amount of Rs.40,000 per annum will be awarded to the selected candidates who are pursuing higher education in Medical courses, such as MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, or BDS. This amount will be paid in two installemnts of Rs.20,000 per year for the course duration.

Engineering Courses

A scholarship amount of Rs.30,000 per annum will be awarded to the selected candidates who are pursuing higher education in Engineering courses, such as BE, BTECH or BArch. This amount will be paid in two installemnts of Rs.15,000 per year for the course duration.

Graduation in Other Fields

A scholarship amount of Rs.20,000 per annum will be awarded to the selected candidates who are pursuing education in integrated courses, graduation in any discipline, vocational courses through government-recognised colleges/ institutes, diploma courses in any field or other equivalent courses, or courses in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). This amount will be paid in two installemnts of Rs.10,000 per year for the course duration.

Special Scholarship for Girl Child

A scholarship amount of Rs.15,000 per annum will be awarded to selected girl candidates after class 10th for pursuing higher studies in intermediate, 10 + 2 pattern, vocational or diploma courses through government-recognised colleges/ institutions or Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) courses for two years. This amount will be paid in two instalments of Rs.7,500 each year for the course duration.

How to apply for LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship?

The application for LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is completely online. Thus, eligible candidates can apply for the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship only through the LIC website. The process to apply is as follows:

Step 1: Visit the LIC website.

Step 2: Click the ‘APPLY HERE FOR SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME 2024’ option. 

Step 3: Enter all the information on the form, upload your mark sheet and proof of admission and click ‘Submit’.

Step 4: You will receive an acknowledgement containing the application number and LIC Division Office address in your email after submission of the form. 

Step 5: The Divisional Office of the LIC mentioned in the email will handle further correspondence and process the application based on the percentage of marks obtained in the last qualifying exam. 

Step 6: The Divisional Office will email the selected candidates with detailed instructions on how to submit the application and supporting documents in person. 

Step 7: Once the physical documents are sent to the Divisional Office, the scholarship scheme will be approved.

Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme 2024 application form

The Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme 2024 application form is available on the LIC website. It can only be filled out and submitted online. The following details must be filled on the form:

  • Personal details, such as district, state, name, father’s name, date of birth, gender, nationality, email, address, category, course name, course duration and annual income of the parent
  • 10th passing or equivalent details, such as university/ board/ institute name, year of passing, percentage of marks, marks sheet upload, year of admission, upload proof of admission, whether your family member is currently applying or receiving this scholarship and whether you are receiving any other scholarship
  •  Bank account details, such as IFSC code, bank name, branch name, account number and last four digits of the Aadhaar number
  • Declaration
