The Government of Goa revises and fixes the minimum wage rates for workers in scheduled employment in Goa. These wages ensure that all workers are fairly compensated for their labour, considering the cost of living and inflation.
The latest revision of minimum wages in Goa came into effect on 1 April 2024. Goa is divided into two zones for the payment of minimum wages to workers, which are as follows:
For the payment of minimum wages in Goa, the workers are classified as unskilled, clerical, semi-skilled, and skilled.
Unskilled workers include cleaners, chowkidars, loaders/ unloaders, laborers, mazdoors, attendants, helpers, sweepers, deliver boys, peons, assistant salesmen, packers, office boys, watchmen, newspaper delivery boys, pump attendants or any other category with similar work nature.
Clerical workers include accountants, telephone operators, steno-typists, clerks, tally clerks, store clerks, typists, godown keepers, receptionists or any other category with a similar work nature.
Semi-skilled workers include assistant fitters, assistant mechanics, assistant electricians, assistant carpenters, assistant blacksmiths, assistant turners, assistant machinists, assistant welders, assistant vulcanisers, assistant tinsmiths, assistant painters, assistant moulders, assistant trailers, assistant wiremen, assistant pump operators, assistant glass cutters, cushion-makers, washermen, compounders, carpenters, pressmen, bakers, glazers, gardeners, hairdressers, lift attendants, frame makers, mill hands or any other category with a similar work nature.
Skilled workers include chemists, supervisors, drivers, watch repairers, shoemakers, tailors, fitters, turners, utensil makers, electricians, machinists, handicraftsmen, welders, opticians, metal engravers, sales representatives, glass polishers, wiremen, foremen, block makers, photographers, pump operators, computer operators or any other category with a similar work nature.
