Passport Fees from 1 July 2026

The Ministry of External Affairs revised passport application fees with effect from 1 July 2026 under the amended Passport Rules. The revised charges apply to fresh passports, passport reissue, Tatkaal applications, replacement of lost or damaged passports, Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), and other passport-related services. Applicants submitting their applications on or after 1 July 2026 are required to pay the revised fees.

Types of Passport Fees

Below are the various types and factors related to the renewal or re-issuance of various passports: 

I. Application Type

You can calculate fees for the following services, whether you are applying for a new passport or reissuing an existing one:

  • Passport
  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
  • Identity Certificate
  • Surrender Certificate

II. Applicant Age

The age of the applicant also determines passport fees, the categories for which are:

  • Below 15 years
  • 15 to 18 years
  • Above 18 years

Each age group has different fees for both fresh and reissue applications.

III. Type of Service

There are two types of services when it comes to passport applications:

  • Fresh Issue: This is for first-time applicants applying for a passport.
  • Reissue: This is for those seeking to renew or replace an existing passport.

Fees for fresh issues and reissues may vary depending on the number of pages and validity required.

IV. Type of Schemes

Two processing schemes are available, each with distinct fees and processing times:

  • Normal: This is the standard application process, in which the applicant follows the regular procedure and processing time. The fees for this category are generally lower.
  • Tatkaal: If you need your passport quickly, tatkaal fast-tracks the application process, but the fees are higher to accommodate the expedited service.

Additional Charges for Passport Application

Apart from the standard passport application fee, the following additional charges may apply depending on the service selected:

How to Pay Passport Fee Online?

You can pay the passport application fee online through the Passport Seva portal after submitting your passport application. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official Passport Seva portal and log in to your account. If you are a new user, complete the registration process first.

Step 2: Click on 'Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport' and complete the online application form.

Step 3: Submit the application to generate your Application Reference Number (ARN).

Step 4: Go to 'View Saved/Submitted Applications', select the application using the ARN, and click 'Pay and Schedule Appointment'.

Step 5: Choose your preferred Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK), select an available appointment slot, and choose the online payment option.

Step 6: Complete the payment using your preferred payment method, such as UPI, net banking, credit card, or debit card.

Step 7: After successful payment, download or print the application receipt containing the ARN and appointment details.

Note: Passport application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If the payment status is pending due to a network or bank issue, check the payment status on the Passport Seva portal before attempting another payment.

How to Pay Passport Fee Offline?

You can pay the passport application fee offline through an SBI challan generated on the Passport Seva portal. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Log in to the Passport Seva portal and complete the online passport application form.

Step 2: Submit the application to generate the Application Reference Number (ARN).

Step 3: Go to 'View Saved/Submitted Applications', select the application, click 'Pay and Schedule Appointment', and choose the SBI Challan payment option.

Step 4: Download and print the SBI challan, then deposit the applicable passport fee at an authorised State Bank of India (SBI) branch.

Step 5: Wait for the payment to be updated on the Passport Seva portal. This usually takes up to 2 working days.

Step 6: Once the payment status is updated, log in to the Passport Seva portal, select your application, and book an appointment at your preferred Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK).

Step 7: Download or print the application receipt and appointment confirmation for verification at the Passport Seva Kendra.

Note: Passport application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Appointment booking is available only after the challan payment is successfully reflected on the Passport Seva portal.

Things to know before Paying Passport Fees

Keep the following points in mind before paying your passport application fee:

  • Payment Modes: Passport application fees can be paid online through UPI, net banking, credit card or debit card. Offline payment can be made through an SBI challan generated on the Passport Seva portal.
  • Fees are Non-Refundable: Passport application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable once the payment is successfully processed.
  • Application Reference Number (ARN): The ARN is generated after successfully submitting the online passport application form. Keep it safely, as it is required for payment, appointment booking and tracking your application.
  • Appointment Confirmation: You can carry either the printed application receipt or the appointment confirmation SMS received on your registered mobile number while visiting the Passport Seva Kendra.
  • Fee Validity: The passport application fee remains valid for one year from the date of payment.
  • Appointment Rescheduling: Normal passport applications can generally be rescheduled up to three times, while Tatkaal applications can be rescheduled once, subject to the Passport Seva guidelines.
  • Original Documents: Carry the original documents along with self-attested photocopies for verification during your appointment.

How to Check Passport Payment Fee Status?

You can check the status of your passport fee payment through the Passport Seva portal after logging in to your account. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official Passport Seva portal and log in using your registered credentials.

Step 2: Click on 'View Saved/Submitted Applications' and select the relevant application.

Step 3: Click on 'Payment and Appointment' and select 'Track Payment Status'.

Step 4: View the payment status for your application. The status will be displayed as Success, Pending, or Failed.

Step 5: If the payment is shown as Pending, click the 'Re-verify Payment' option to refresh the payment status.

Step 6: If the payment remains pending or fails after re-verification, wait until the next working day before attempting another payment. If the amount has been debited but the payment fails, contact your bank or the Passport Seva support for assistance.
