Check Passport Status Online using the mPassport Seva Mobile App

The mPassport Seva is a mobile app launched by the Government of India to offer passport-related services. Here is how to track passport status through the mPassport Seva Mobile App:

Step 1: Install the official Passport Seva App (published by PSP Division - MEA, Govt of India) from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Step 2: Open the app and select the 'Status Tracker' feature directly on the home screen. (Note: You can use this feature instantly as a guest without needing to register or enter an email address).

How to Track Passport Application Status Offline?

There are three ways you can track passport application status offline:

i. Track Passport Application Status via SMS 

To check the status of your passport application via SMS, simply text ‘STATUS [15-digit File Number]’ to 9704100100. This method will give a quick update on your application status. 

Note: This is a premium, paid SMS service. Use this service for immediate updates.

ii. Track Passport Status via the National Call Centre 

To monitor passport status, call the citizen service representative at the national call centre on the toll-free number 1800-258-1800 between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and mention the passport application file number.

Check Application Status via Speed Post

Passports are usually delivered to the registered address through Speed Post. After dispatch, a 13-digit India Post tracking ID is provided via the Passport Seva portal or SMS to track the delivery status. To check the application status, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Copy your 13-digit tracking ID from the Passport Seva tracking system.

Step 2: Visit the official India Post Consignment Tracking Website.

Step 3: Enter the tracking ID under the ‘Consignment Number’ field.

Step 4: Complete the security/captcha code displayed on the screen.

Step 5: Click on the ‘Track Now’ button to check your passport’s live delivery status.

Process to Track Passport Dispatch and Delivery Status  

Passports are generally delivered to your registered address via Speed Post. You can use the Speed Post tracking tool to track its delivery status. Here is how you can check the dispatch and delivery status of your passport:

Step 1: Visit the official Passport Seva website.

Step 2: Retrieve your 13-digit tracking ID.

Step 3: Go to ‘Track Consignment’.

Step 4: Enter your tracking ID under ‘Consignment Number’ and then enter the security code displayed. 

Step 5: Click on the ‘Track Now’ button to check your passport’s dispatch and delivery status.

If the delivery tracking ID or details are unavailable, it means the passport has not been dispatched yet. If you encounter any issues, contact your regional passport office for assistance.

How to Check Passport Police Verification Status? 

After a passport application is submitted, the passport office initiates police verification to confirm the applicant's details. The status of the police verification can be checked online by following these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official India Passport Seva website.

Step 2: Click on the 'Track Application Status' option.

Step 3: Select application type, then enter the 15-digit File Number and date of birth.

Step 4: Tap on the 'Track Status' button to check the application status.

Step 5: The screen will update to show the exact stage of your application, highlighting whether the police report is pending, under review, or cleared.

If you want to know how to check passport status using your name, follow the steps given below :

Step 1: Go to the official Passport Seva website.
