How to Calculate Stamp Duty in MP?

The state government charges stamp duty on a percentage based on the market value of the property. Let us understand this with an example.

Suppose Hitesh buys a property at Rs. 50,00,000 where the stamp duty is 7.5% and the registration fee is 3% of market value. Stamp duty in Madhya Pradesh and registration fees will be as follows:

Stamp duty: 50,00,000 x 7.5% =  Rs. 3,75,000

Registration fees: 50,00,000 x 3% = Rs. 1,50,000

Thus, Hitesh must pay Rs. 5,25,000 (Rs. 3,75,000 + Rs. 1,50,000)

How to Pay Stamp Duty in MP?

You can pay stamp duty and registration charges in Madhya Pradesh either online or offline. Here are ways to pay the stamp duty.

Online Payment Process

  • Visit the MP IGR website and click ‘SAMPADA’.
  • Log in to the SAMPADA page. If you are a new user, register and log into the page.
  • After logging in, enter relevant information and make the payment.
  • Download the e-stamp certificate or receipt and check the available appointment slots to visit the sub-registrar’s office.

Offline Payment Process

  • Visit the sub-registrar’s office or designated banks or post offices. 
  • Provide the necessary details, including property and transaction information, in the required form.
  • Pay the required amount in cash, a demand draft, or a cheque.
  • Collect the stamped receipt as official proof of payment once the transaction is successfully processed.

Unlike some states in India where the state government provides concessions and exemptions for women, in MP, you will not get such concessions. Therefore, the stamp duty and registration charges are the same for both male and female owners.
