How to Calculate Stamp Duty in Punjab?

The stamp duty on property in Punjab is charged as a percentage of the property’s market or transaction value. Here are the steps to calculate the stamp duty in Punjab 2025:

  • The property’s transaction or market value needs to be determined. 
  • Find out the stamp duty and registration charges in Punjab. 
  • Apply the required stamp duty and registration rates to the property’s value. 
  • Add the calculated registration charges and stamp duty to get the total registration value. 

Consider the following example:

Suppose Anupam buys a property worth Rs. 75,00,000 in the state of Punjab. As a male buyer, he will be charged a stamp duty of 7% as per the regulations in that state. 

Therefore, 

Stamp Duty = 7% of Rs. 75,00,000 = Rs. 5,25,000

Registration Charges = 1% of Rs. 75,00,000 = Rs. 75,000

So, the total value of registration = Rs. 6,00,000 (5,25,000 + 75,000). 

How to Pay Stamp Duty in Punjab?

Here is how to pay stamp duty in Punjab:

  • First, visit the SCHIL website.
  • Then click on ‘Login’, select ‘e-Stamping’ and click on ‘Citizen Login’. 
  • Register and login using your credentials.
  • Click on the ‘Pay Stamp Duty/eCourt Fee Generation/eRegistration Fee Payment’ option.
  • Enter the required information.
  • Make the payment there via net banking, credit or debit card
  • Print out the e-stamp or receipt.

SHCIL also has many authorised collection centres, called ACC or stockholding e-stamping counters. They act as intermediaries between the buyer and SHCIL. If you opt for the offline method, you can take a print out of the ‘Application of Stamp Duty’, fill in the details and submit it along with the stamp duty charge in cash to the ACC or stockholding e-stamping counters.

Exemptions & Concessions on Stamp Duty in Punjab

A property buyer can get certain exceptions and concessions on stamp duty in Punjab. Female buyers in Punjab pay a concessional stamp duty rate of 5% compared to male buyers, who pay a stamp duty of 7%.
