In the present times, the Aadhaar card is considered to be one of the crucial documents that you must have and update as per the government guidelines from time to time. However, even though a manual KYC verification for your Aadhaar can be a hectic task, an e-KYC for Aadhaar can help you reduce much of your hassles.

This digital methodology of Aadhaar e-KYC is an easy and convenient identification process, that is way faster and time-saving. So if you are new to the concept, read further to know more in detail.

What is Aadhaar e-KYC?

An e-KYC for Aadhaar is a convenient and paperless documentation process to check the authentication of an individual's identity. This Aadhaar KYC process involves an ID verification round including biometric and demographic details available as per the UIDAI database. These should be the same details as submitted during your Aadhaar registration process.

Since these are data that have already been verified by the UIDAI, it saves the time that you would have spent on extensive paperwork and attestations. Hence, you can easily opt for an e-KYC for Aadhaar, which can work for you as multiple documents such as address proof, age proof, ID proof, etc. In other words, it is a comprehensive document that can be held valid for all such data.

What is an Aadhaar Card KYC and E-KYC?

An Aadhaar card KYC is an easy and convenient identification process to complete your KYC, for which you need to submit your Aadhaar card. This process has been considered a convenient one since your Aadhaar card can act as a comprehensive document for all such documents that might have been needed for your KYC process. This consequently saves you time and helps you get rid of the hassles of carrying so many documents with you.

On the other hand, an e-KYC refers to an electronic Know Your Customer, which is a digital process to complete your KYC. Hence, authorised organisations or agents would verify their customers' identities and address them digitally via Aadhaar card authentication.

In other words, an e-KYC process is conducted digitally while being physically present anywhere for documentation purposes. It plays a crucial role in the online identity verification process and hence is a smart step towards securing the process of financial onboarding of customers within the financial sector.

Difference Between Aadhaar e-KYC and Aadhaar Offline KYC

The difference between Aadhaar e KYC and the offline process of Aadhaar KYC is quite simple and easy to grasp. Aadhaar e KYC is executed digitally and it does not require the customers to be physically present for the documentation process. It is a more time-saving and convenient option.

On the other hand, the offline process of Aadhaar KYC requires you to be physically present at the documentation centre. The agency is also needed to confirm the authentication of the user through an OTP or face authentication mechanism.

The offline process of KYC would be a little time-consuming, where you need to provide a few essential documents at the centre, which include the following:

  • Address proof
  • Age proof
  • ID proof

However, all these above-mentioned data would be covered by your Aadhaar card. Hence, you need to provide your Aadhaar card once you visit the documentation centre in person.

Kinds of Aadhaar eKYC

There are two kinds of Aadhaar e-KYC that you can consider. They are as follows:

  • Using Biometrics

During this process, you will have to provide your 12-digit Aadhaar number and your biometric data which include fingerprints and iris scan.

  • Using OTP

Through this process, you will need to provide your 12-digit Aadhaar number and you will get an OTP on the registered mobile number (linked with your Aadhaar card at the time of registration). Once you enter the OTP in the designated place, your verification process will be completed.

How to do Aadhaar eKYC Online?

To complete your Aadhaar e KYC process online, you can proceed by following the given simple steps:

  • Using Biometrics

The steps to follow to get your Aadhaar card using your biometrics are as follows:

  1. Provide your Aadhaar card to the service provider, after which they will note your Aadhaar number or UID (Unique Identification Number).
  2. Through a biometric scanner, they would capture your retinal image and fingerprints.
  3. This biometric information should match the already existing values taken at the time of your Aadhaar or UID card registration. So it will be communicated to UIDAI for verification.
  4. After these are matched, the verification process will be completed.
  • Using OTP Authentication

These are the steps you need to follow to complete your online Aadhaar e-KYC process using OTP authentication.

  1. Provide your Aadhaar card to the service provider, after which they will note your Aadhaar number or UID (Unique Identification Number).
  2. An OTP will be sent by UIDAI to your registered mobile number.
  3. Once you enter the OTP in the device as provided by your service provider, the verification process will be completed.

How to Check the Aadhaar Card eKYC Status?

To check the status of your Aadhaar card e-KYC status, you will have to follow a few simple steps such as given below:

  1. Visit the official website of any KRA (KYC Registration Agency).
  2. Provide the details of your PAN (Permanent Account Number) in the designated places.

What are the benefits of Aadhaar e-KYC?

Apart from being a convenient, time-saving and paperless process, there are several other advantages of Aadhaar paperless e KYC which include the following:

  • The entire process of authentication does not require you to pay anything. It is completely free of cost.
  • All the information that is extracted from the database of the UIDAI has already been verified, which is why it needs no further authentication.
  • The entire process depends on the consent of the customer. Hence the UIDAI shall share such essential details with the requesting party only when the customers provide their acknowledgement to do it through biometrics or OTP.
  • The agencies conducting Aadhaar card e-KYC are all registered by the UIDAI, along with the biometric scanners used by the service providers. So there are no risks of compromising your personal details.
  • All the digital documents are shared through a secure channel which reduces the risks of illegal replication of documents.
