The GST collection report for May 2025 was released on 1st June 2025 by the GST Network. May 2025 GST collection is Rs.2,01,050 crores. May 2025 collection has dropped down as compared to the April 2025 GST collection which was Rs.2,36,716  crores. In this article, you can discover the reasons why there has been a drop in the GST collections with analysis on the state-wise GST collections for May 2025.

Analysis of the GST Collections May 2025

The May 2025 GST collection has significantly gone up in comparison with last financial year. However, the gross GST collections for May 2025 amounts to Rs.2.01 lakh crore which is lower than last month’s GST collections. The monthly GST collection for May 2025 shows a growth of 16.4% compared to May 2024 when it was Rs.1.74 lakh crore at 10% Year-on-year (YoY) basis.    

The key components of May 2025 gross GST collection include CGST at Rs.35,434 crores, SGST at Rs.43,902 crores, IGST at Rs.1,08,836 crores, and Cess at Rs.12,879 crores. Domestic Transactions witnessed a Yo-Y increase of 13.7%, while revenues from imports significantly rose by 25.2%.

The GST collections report of May 2025 also informs of GST refund processed during May 2025 as Rs.27,210 crores. A total CGST refund released is Rs.4,243 crores, SGST refund of Rs.5,391 crore, IGST refund of Rs.17,159 crore and cess of Rs.417 crore, said the report.

The total net GST collections for May 2025 works out to Rs.1,73,841 crore, which is a 20.4% month-on-month growth.

GST Collections for May 2025 State-wise

The government also released the state-wise GST collections for May 2025. Maharashtra again leads the states in absolute gross monthly revenue, followed by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Delhi.

Almost every state and union territory improved their GST collections during May 2025, except Uttarakhand (-13%), Mizoram (-26%), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (-6%) and Andhra Pradesh (-2%).

Key contributors to monthly revenue, such as Maharashtra and Karnataka, reported a similar growth of 17-20%.
