IndusInd Bank, a Mumbai-based financial services company, enables customers to send and receive money from banks outside India. This code, known as the SWIFT code, facilitates accurate and efficient international transactions.

In this article, we will walk you through a complete list of IndusInd Bank SWIFT codes applicable to its different branches while highlighting associated details that you need to know.

What Is the SWIFT Code of IndusInd Bank?

The IndusInd Bank SWIFT code is an 8-11 character code that represents its branch, location and country. Following the standardised ISO format, such as INDBINXXXXX, this code significantly facilitates cross-border payments for bank customers. With this code, the bank ensures that payments are directed accurately to the intended recipient, regardless of their location anywhere across the globe.

Importance of SWIFT Code for IndusInd Bank

Here are some of the important features of IndusInd Bank SWIFT code that you need to know:

  • With the help of a SWIFT code, IndusInd Bank can ensure fast exchanges of messages or information with other banks, including those located abroad.
  • The SWIFT code network is unlike any other data transmission network without security. It comes with encryption and decryption technology that safeguards all transfers made from one bank to another.
  • The SWIFT code helps in identifying a particular branch of IndusInd Bank, as each branch is assigned a unique and independent one.

Is the SWIFT Code Same for All Branches of IndusInd Bank?

Most Indian banks and financial institutions have separate SWIFT codes for each branch. However, not all branches need to have different codes. Some branches are allotted the 8-character SWIFT code of the bank's head office. IndusInd Bank has a unique SWIFT code for each branch. Customers should find out the applicable code for their branch before initiating international payments.

IndusInd Bank SWIFT Code Structure and Format

Like any other SWIFT code, the International Organization for Standardization allotted an 8-11 character code to IndusInd Bank. It has the same standardised format as any other bank, which is a combination of 4 smaller codes. These codes are bank code, country code, location code, and branch code.

Let us discuss the IndusInd Bank SWIFT code format in detail:

  • Bank code: The first 4 letters that you find in the IndusInd Bank SWIFT code is the bank code. It is just a shortened version of the bank's name, used for identifying the bank in the vast global network.
  • Country code: Following the bank code, the next 2 letters represent the country code. This denotes the country in which the bank is located. In this case, the country code is ‘IN’, which is short for India.
  • Location code: After the country code, the next code represents the location of the bank’s head office. This code is of 2 characters made up of either letters or numbers.
  • Branch code: Lastly, you will find the branch code in the SWIFT code, which consists of 3 digits, either numbers or letters, representing a particular branch of the IndusInd Bank.

Example of IndusInd Bank SWIFT Code

Let us consider an example of IndusInd Bank SWIFT code to understand its structure and format:

For instance: INDBINXXXXX
First 4 Letters (INDB) Institution or Bank code
Following 2 Letters (IN) ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 Country code
Following 2 Letters or Digits (XX) Location code
Following 3 Letters or Digits (XXX) Branch code
Instead of letters, if the second character turns out to be ‘0’ in the code, it is considered a test BIC as opposed to a BIC utilised on the live network.
When the second character in the code turns out to be ‘2’, it is considered a reverse billing BIC, in which the recipient is responsible for covering the message's cost instead of the sender.
In case the second character is ‘1’, it denotes that there is a passive participant in the SWIFT network.
