Unclaimed deposits refer to bank accounts and term deposits which have not been used or claimed for 10 years. Several banks provide details of unclaimed deposits held by them via RBI’s online portal. One such bank is the Punjab National Bank (PNB).
It may happen at times that you have forgotten about your deposits, or a depositor dies, and no one knows when and how to claim it. In such scenarios, after a specific time period, your deposits are considered unclaimed. However, you can claim it by implementing a few simple processes.

PNB unclaimed deposits refer to the balance in savings and current accounts which have not been used for 10 years. In the case of term deposits, it refers to those deposits which have not been claimed for 10 years since the date of maturity.
Punjab National Bank transfers any unclaimed deposits to the Reserve Bank of India's Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund. However, an account holder or legal heir can still claim the deposits from the bank by following some steps, which we have discussed in detail in the sections below.
By the end of February 2023, Punjab National Bank had unclaimed deposits worth Rs. 5,340 crore.
You can find the PNB unclaimed deposits list from RBI’s UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits Gateway to Access Information) portal.
Here are the steps you will have to follow to check if you have any PNB unclaimed deposits:
Step 1: Visit the PNB Bank’s Inoperative Accounts page.
Step 2: Enter the required information, such as name, address, and captcha code and click ‘Go’.
Step 3: If you have any unclaimed deposits, they will be displayed on the screen.
You need to follow the steps below to claim your PNB unclaimed deposit:
Step 1: Visit the PNB branch where you want to make the claim.
Step 2: Enter your name and account details in the ‘Unclaimed Deposits/ Inoperative Accounts Claim’ form.
Step 3: Submit KYC documents, passbook or TDR receipts, and the filled claim form at the bank branch. A death certificate of the original account holder will also be required if you are the legal heir.
The Punjab National Bank will settle your application after processing your claim.

If you have an inoperative account or unclaimed deposits, you can claim PNB unclaimed deposits by applying to your nearest branch. The details for the deposit can be found at RBI’s UDGAM portal. PNB will settle your claim by verifying all the documents and information you submitted.
