In India, people belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC) or Other Backward Class (OBC) category can apply for a caste certificate. The caste certificate is an essential document for obtaining various benefits provided by the government in education and employment fields. It acts as a proof of record that an individual belongs to that respective category.

The state government issues the caste certificate. Thus, an individual belonging to SC, ST or OBC category can apply for a caste certificate to the respective department of his/her state. After the application for the caste certificate is submitted, an individual can verify/check the caste certificate status online from the Department of Backward Classes Welfare of different states.

Process to Check Caste Certificate Status Online

Following is the process to check the status of the caste certificate application:

  • Visit the official website of the Department of Backward Classes Welfare of the state where the application is filed or the state’s official e-services/e-seva portal.
  • Select the ‘Application status’ button on the homepage.
  • Enter the requested application number.
  • Click on the search option.
  • The caste certificate status will appear on the screen with the application status details.

An individual can even take a hard copy of the application status for future references.

Process to Verify Caste Certificate Details Online

Following is the process to verify caste certificate details online are:

  • Visit the official website of the Department of Backward Classes Welfare of the state where the application is filed or the state’s official e-services/e-seva portal.
  • Select the ‘Certificate details’ button on the homepage.
  • Enter the number of the issued caste certificate and click the ‘Search’ button.
  • The caste certificate with additional details will appear on the screen through which the individual can verify the certificate details.

An individual can even take a print of the caste certificate details for future reference.

Documents Required to Check Caste Certificate Status 

No documents are required to check the application status of the caste certificate online. An individual should enter the application number issued by the authoritative state council at the time of submitting the application. For verifying a caste certificate detail, an individual should enter the issued caste certificate number; thus, no other document is required.
