When you apply for a PAN (Permanent Account Number) card, you can choose to receive the physical form of the PAN card or the digital PAN card, i.e., the e-PAN card. e-PAN card is the digital form of your PAN card which you will receive on your email address.
e-PAN card has the same value as a physical PAN card. It is accepted as proof of identity and can be used at all places where a PAN card is required. You can upload your e-PAN card for identity/ address verification purposes and to conduct financial transactions. Anyone above 18 years old who does not have a PAN number allotted to him/her can apply for an instant PAN card on the Income Tax website. For an instant e-PAN card, you must have an Aadhaar number linked to your mobile number. Follow the below steps to apply for an instant PAN card:
Step 1: Visit the Income Tax e-Filing website.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Instant E-PAN’ option under the ‘Quick Links’ heading.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Get New e-PAN’ option.
Step 4: Enter your Aadhaar number, tick the confirmation and click on ‘Continue’ button.
Step 5: Read the terms and tick the ‘I have read the consent terms and agree to proceed further’ and click the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 6: Enter the Aadhaar OTP received on your Aadhaar registered mobile number. Tick the agreement and click the ‘Continue’ button. Please note that the OTP will be valid for only 15 minutes.
Step 7: Your personal details based on your Aadhaar card will be displayed on the screen. Check the Aadhaar details, tick the acceptance and click the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 8: An acknowledgement number will be displayed on the screen. You will also receive the acknowledgement number via SMS instantly.
Follow the below steps to apply for the e-PAN card through the NSDL website:
Step 1: Visit the NSDL PAN online portal. Enter the details and click the 'Submit' button.
Step 2: While making the application, select ‘No’ for the question ‘Whether Physical PAN Card is required?’. When the ‘No’ option is selected, the e-PAN will be sent to your email.
Step 3: Provide all the details, i.e., personal details, contact details and AO code details, exactly as per your Aadhaar Card.
Step 4: Once all the details have been entered, upload the documents and pay the required fees.
Step 5: You will receive an acknowledgement number on your email ID and mobile number mentioned on your application. Once the e-PAN has been allotted, you will receive it directly on the email given in the application.
Follow the below steps to apply for the e-PAN card through the UTIITSL website:
Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL PAN online portal and click on ‘Apply for New PAN Card’.
Step 2: While filling the application, choose either the ‘Both physical PAN Card and e-PAN’ or ‘e-PAN only, No physical PAN Card will be dispatched’ option.
If you choose the option ‘Both physical PAN Card and e-PAN’, you will receive the physical PAN card by post and e-PAN card on your email. If you choose the option ‘e-PAN only’, you will only receive the e-PAN card on your email.
Step 3: Provide all the details, such as personal details, document details, contact and parent details, address details and other details, exactly as per your Aadhaar Card.
Step 4: Once all the details have been entered, upload the required documents and submit the application.
Step 5: You will receive an acknowledgement number on your email ID and mobile number mentioned on your application. Once the e-PAN has been allotted, you will receive an alert by SMS or email.
After submitting the e-PAN card application, you can check the status of your e-PAN application through various methods as provided below.
When you have applied for an instant e-PAN card on the Income Tax website, follow the below steps to track the status of your e-PAN card application by using the Aadhaar number:
Step 1: Visit the Income Tax e-Filing website.
Step 2: Click the ‘Instant E-PAN’ option under the ‘Quick Links’ heading.
Step 3: Click ‘Continue’ under the ‘Check Status/ Download PAN’ tab.
Step 4: Enter your Aadhaar number and click ‘Continue’
Step 5: Enter the Aadhaar OTP received on your Aadhaar registered mobile number. Tick the agreement and click the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 6: The status of your e-PAN card will be displayed on the screen. If your e-PAN card is generated and allotted, you can view it by clicking on the ‘View e-PAN’ option. You can also download your e-PAN card by clicking on the ‘Download e-PAN’ option.
When you have applied for an e-PAN card on the NSDL website, follow the below steps to check the status of your e-PAN card:
Step 1: Visit the official TIN NSDL website.
Step 2: Select ‘Application Type’ as ‘PAN – New/Change Request’.
Step 3: Select ‘Acknowledgement Number’ and enter the acknowledgement number and captcha code. Click on 'Submit'.
The status of the e-PAN card application will be displayed on the screen. However, you can check your e-PAN card status only after 24 hours of submitting the e-PAN card application.
When you have applied for e-PAN card on the UTIITSL website, follow the below steps to check the status of your e-PAN card:
Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL website.
Step 2: Scroll down and click on the ‘Track PAN Card’ tab.
Step 3: Enter the 'Application/ Coupon number', date of birth, and captcha code and click on ‘Search’.
The status of the e-PAN card will be displayed on the screen.
When you have applied for an e-PAN card on the NSDL website, you can check the status of your e-PAN card by sending an SMS or WhatsApp message from your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.
You need to send an SMS with your 15-digit acknowledgement number to 57575 from your registered mobile number, and you will receive the status of your e-PAN card.
You can send a ‘Hi’ on WhatsApp to 8096078080, click on the ‘Services’ option under the next message and select the ‘Status of Application’ option. Next, click on the ‘PAN Application’ option and enter your acknowledgement number to receive the status of your e-PAN card.
You can check the status of your e-PAN card by entering your name by following the below steps:
Step 1: Visit the TIN-NSDL website.
Step 2: In the ‘Application Type’ section, choose ‘PAN – New/Change Request’.
Step 3: Select the ‘Name’ and fill in your Last Name, First Name, Middle Name, and Date of Birth and click the 'Submit' button.
You can apply for the e-PAN card online by filling out the PAN card application form. However, remember to select the e-PAN card or physical PAN card not required option to receive the e-PAN card. You can also get your e-PAN card instantly without uploading any document through the Income Tax website by entering your Aadhaar number.
You can track your e-PAN card application by entering your acknowledgement number, application number, name and date of birth on the NSDL or the UTIITSL website. You can also easily track the status of the instant e-PAN card on the Income Tax website by entering your AAdhaar number and OTP.
