State Bank of India (SBI), the largest public sector bank in India, offers a net banking facility to its customers, both retail customers as well as corporate customers. This online facility enables customers to conveniently perform various banking tasks from any location at any time. However, customers must first activate their net banking accounts to enjoy this convenience.

In addition to its extensive branch network, the State Bank of India operates through its net banking portal, offering 24x7 banking services to both retail and corporate customers. Designed with cutting-edge technology and advanced features, this portal facilitates various banking activities such as downloading account statements, printing passbooks, online bill payments, cash withdrawals, applying for chequebooks, creating demand drafts and so on.

  • Make online payments for utility bills, mobile/DTH recharge, leisure expenses, etc. 
  • Open various accounts with SBI, such as RD, FD, Demat, etc. 
  • Pay taxes, e-verify income tax returns, view TDS certificates and interest certificates
  • Set up standing instructions for timely payments, transfers or auto-debits

SBI customers must satisfy the following criteria to be able to register for SBI net banking services online:

  • Have a savings account with SBI.
  • Must have linked their mobile numbers with the bank account.
  • Must have a valid ATM card.

How to Activate SBI Net Banking?

The following is a stepwise process to activate SBI net banking:

Step 1: Visit the SBI Online website.

Step 2: Click on ‘New User Registration’ under the ‘Personal Banking’ section.

Step 3: A pop-up window will appear on the screen to confirm that you have not received an Internet banking kit. Click on ‘OK’.

Please note that if your bank has given you the SBI Netbanking credentials/kit, then you need not register for SBI Netbanking. You can directly log in by entering the user ID and password provided by the bank.

Step 4: A pop-up will appear. Here, select the ‘New User Registration’ option from the drop-down menu and click ‘Next’.

Step 5: In the next screen that appears, fill up the details such as the account number, CIF number, branch code, country, registered mobile number, and the facility you want to sign-up for. Also, enter the captcha code correctly. 

If you are unable to figure out the branch code, you can find it under the ‘Get Branch Code’ option. You must enter the state and the branch name to get the branch code.

Under the ‘Facility Required’ field, you can select one of the following options: View, limited transactions, and full transactions.

After filling in all the details, click on ‘I agree’ and then ‘Submit’ button.

Step 6: An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number. Enter the OTP on the screen and click ‘Confirm’.

Step 7: Select the option ‘I have my ATM card’ and click ‘Submit’.

Step 8: Now, enter the ATM card details on the screen and click ‘Submit’.

Step 9: A temporary username will be displayed on the screen; take note of this username.

Step 10: Set a password and click ‘Submit’ to complete the registration process. 

Documents Required for SBI Netbanking

To activate the SBI Net Banking portal, you do not need to provide any documents. You just need to ensure that you have the following details readily available

  • SBI Account Number 
  • SBI Branch Code
  • Registered Mobile Number 
  • SBI ATM Card Details 
  • CIF Number 
  • Name of the Country

Step 1: Visit the SBI Online website.

Step 5: You will be redirected to the homepage where you can access all information related to your account. You must also set the profile password when you login for the first time.

Corporate Banking

Step 1: Visit the SBI Online website.

How to Open an SBI Account Online? 

Follow the below steps to open an SBI account online (Fixed Deposit, Recurring Deposit, NPS, PPF, Demat and SSA)  via its net banking website: 

Step 1: Visit the SBI Online website and click ‘Login’.

Step 2: Enter your username, password and Captcha code and click ‘Login’.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Deposit & Investment’ tab.

Step 4: Select the account you want to open, enter the details and click ‘Submit’. 

Step 5: After form submission, visit the SBI branch and provide the supporting KYC documents. 

A SBI bank representative will process your account opening application and verify your documents. Upon successful verification, your bank account will be activated. However, this process could take around 3-5 business days. 

How to Check Balance Through SBI Net Banking? 

Step 1: Visit the SBI Online website and click ‘Login’.

Step 2: Enter your username, password and Captcha code and click ‘Login’.

Step 3: The homepage will appear. Here, click on 'Account Summary’ option available under the ‘Quick Links’.

There are 3 ways through which you can reset your SBI Net banking password: 

  • By visiting the bank branch
  • Using the profile password
  • Using details of ATM card

You can visit the bank branch and reset your password. Alternatively, you can reset password online on the SBI portal by providing your profile password or ATM card details. The steps to reset SBI Netbanking password online are as follows:

Step 1: Visit the SBI Online website.

Step 2: Click ‘Login’ under ‘Personal Banking’ section.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Continue to Login’ button.

Step 4: In the login screen, click ‘Forgot Username/ Login Password’.

Step 5: A pop-up window will appear with a dropdown menu. Select the ‘Forgot My Login Password’ option and click ‘Next’.

Step 6: In the following screen, provide details such as username, account number, date of birth, mobile number, country, and captcha code and click ‘Submit’.

Step 7: An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter this OTP on the screen and click ‘Confirm’.

Step 8: You will be redirected to a page where you can reset the password. Select either ‘Using ATM Card Details’ or ‘Using Profile Password’ option and click ‘Submit’.

Step 9: On the next screen, enter the required details, i.e. either your ATM card details or profile password, and click ‘Confirm’.

Step 10: You will get the reference number along with a link below to return to the retail portal. Click on the link.

How can I get my SBI online banking username and password?

You need to have an SBI account at a branch. You will need to register for the Internet banking service at the branch. The branch will give you a Pre Printed Kit (PPK) with your username and password for your first login.

In case you are unable to collect the PPK in person, the bank can send the username to you via SMS and a mailer containing the password to your registered address.   • It is recommended to choose a word that is not available in English dictionary.
  • Change your password at regular intervals of time.
  • Do not note your password anywhere. Memorise your password.
  • Do not share your password with anyone even if they claim that they are from SBI.
Can I change the username and password provided to me by courier?

The username and password sent to you by courier are system-generated and it is mandatory for you to change them on your first login. Later, you can only change the password and username.
