An Aadhaar serves as a proof of identification for an individual. A unique Aadhaar Number is issued to the residents of India who apply for an Aadhaar. The Aadhaar number, which is issued to an individual is a 12-digit random number. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is the Government Authority which issues Aadhaar. Aadhaar is issued after satisfying the verification process and obtaining the minimal demographic and biometric information of an individual.
The Aadhaar number of an individual cannot be reassigned again to any other individual. Thus, there cannot be a duplicate Aadhaar number as it is linked to the individual biometrics. The UIDAI has introduced various forms of Aadhaar from time to time such as Aadhaar Letter, mAadhaar and eAadhaar for the convenience of the residents.
The latest form of Aadhar introduced by the UIDAI is the Aadhaar PVC Card. UIDAI has allowed Aadhaar reprint on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cards which the individuals can obtain by applying/raising a request on the UIDAI website. An individual can choose to have any form of Aadhaar as per his/her convenience. All the forms of Aadhaar are recognised as proof of identity without giving preference to one form over the other.
The latest Aadhaar PVC card has many benefits. Since the card is the size of a debit card, it is convenient to carry in a wallet, unlike the long Aadhaar letter form. It has a pocket-sized variability and is instantly verifiable offline. It is safe, secure, and durable. It has various security features, a digitally signed QR code and a photograph.
