How to Link Mobile Number With Aadhaar For The First Time (Offline Method)

Unfortunately, this process cannot be done online. You must visit the nearest Aadhaar centre to link your Aadhaar with your mobile number. Here is the process for the same:

Step 1: Collect the Aadhaar update form from the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or the Aadhaar Seva Kendra. You can locate your nearest centre from the UIDAI website.

Step 2: Enter the accurate information on the form along with your mobile number. Mention on the form that only your phone number needs to be updated. Alternatively, you can also download the form from UIDAI website.

Step 3: Submit it to the Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or the Aadhaar Seva Kendra along with a photocopy of your Aadhaar card.

Step 4: Next, verify your thumb impression and biometrics, which will be matched with those recorded during the Aadhaar application process.

Step 5: The officer will give you an acknowledgement slip containing the Unique Request Number (URN). The update should take place within five to ten days.

How to Book Appointment for Aadhaar Link to Mobile Number?

You can visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or the Aadhaar Seva Kendra to link your Aadhaar card with your mobile number. Alternatively, you can also book an appointment at the Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or the Aadhaar Seva Kendra to skip the waiting line at the centre and link Aadhaar to mobile number. 

Follow the below process to book an appointment for Aadhaar link to mobile number:

Step 1: Visit the UIDAI website.

Step 2: Navigate to the ‘My Aadhaar’ section and click ‘Book an Appointment’ under the ‘Get Aadhaar’ heading.

Step 3: Select your city/location and click ‘Proceed to Book Appointment’.

Step 4: Enter your mobile number and captcha code and click ‘Get OTP’. Enter the OTP and click ‘Verify OTP’.

Step 5: Enter your Aadhaar number and name and tick the mobile number option. Then, enter your mobile number and verify it. 

Step 6: Enter the appointment details and proceed. You can choose to make the payment online or at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra for linking your mobile number with your Aadhaar. You will receive an acknowledgement slip containing the appointment details.

Step 7: Visit the Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra at the time of your appointment, obtain the Aadhaar update form and complete your Biometrics verification to link Aadhaar to mobile number.

Link Mobile Number to Aadhaar Card Online 

Linking of mobile number to Aadhaar card online is temporarily discontinued. The steps to link mobile number to Aadhaar card online was as follows:

Step 1: Go to the Indian Postal Service website.

Step 2: Enter details- your name, address, Pincode, mobile number, and email address.

Step 3: Under ‘Service’, choose ‘PPB- Aadhaar Service’ from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: Select ‘UIDAI-Mobile/Email to Aadhaar linking/update’.

Step 5: Once you fill in all the necessary fields, click on the ‘Request OTP’ button.

Step 6: Next, enter the OTP received on your mobile number.

Step 7: Now click on ‘Confirm Service Request’. You will receive a reference number where you can track your application status.

Step 8: The service request will be sent to the post office near you on successful submission.

Step 9: The verification process will be done by an officer assigned the task. The officer will visit your address and verify using a mobile biometric device (For iris, fingerprints and photographs).

Step 10: They will complete the update/linking process and charge you a fee for the service.

Documents Required To Link Aadhaar to Mobile Number Online

No document is needed to link the mobile number with the Aadhaar. However, you must carry the Aadhaar card when visiting the Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Charges for Aadhaar Link to Mobile Number

There is no fees to link Aadhaar with mobile number during Aadhaar enrollment. However, if you want to link or update your Aadhaar-registered mobile number after enrollment, you have to pay Rs. 50 (inclusive of GST). 

Situations Where You Need to Link Aadhaar to Mobile Number

You may have to link your Aadhaar number in these two scenarios:

• You have updated your mobile number and you need to link the new number to your Aadhaar card.
• Your Aadhaar card does not have a mobile number linked to it. 

Though it is not mandatory to provide a mobile number for Aadhaar enrollment, it is recommended to provide your mobile number while enrolling for an Aadhaar card to get updates regarding your Aadhaar application status and various services based on Aadhaar-OTP authentication. 

How to Change Mobile Number Linked With Aadhaar?

When you change your mobile number, you need to update the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card to receive Aadhaar-based OTPs on your new mobile number. Here is a step-by-step detail to link Aadhaar to updated mobile number:

Step 1: Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra or book an appointment at the Aadhaar centre as provided above.

Step 2: Obtain and fill out the Aadhaar update form. In the form, select the mobile number option to be updated. 

Step 3: Submit the form to the officials along with a photocopy of your Aadhaar card and one proof of photo ID.

Step 4: Provide your biometrics to authenticate your information and pay the service charge.

Step 5: Within 90 days, your mobile number will be updated in the Aadhaar database and the new mobile number will be linked with your Aadhaar card.

Currently, there is no online provision to linking your mobile number with your Aadhaar card. However, you can easily link Aadhaar to mobile number by booking an appointment with the Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar Enrollment Centre online, visiting the centre and submitting the update form along with your Biometrics. Once linked, you can access all Aadhaar-enabled services and complete without interruption.
