Aadhaar Card is now mandatory to file income tax returns from FY 2016-17. Also, Aadhaar card serves as a proof of identity and address for every Indian individual including children and infants in India. If anyone does not have Aadhaar card, this is a good time to apply for it.
Step 1: Visit the webpage https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/easearch.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 to find the Aadhaar enrolment center near you.
Step 2: Book an appointment online for your visit to the center. You can book an appointment through official website https://aadharcarduid.com/aadhaar-card-apply-online. Alternatively, you can also visit the center without an appointment.
Step 3: Carry the following supporting documents with you:
a. Identity proof
b. Address proof
c. Proof of birth date
Step 4: When you visit the enrolment centre, fill in an enrolment form with relevant information.
Step 5: Submit the duly filled enrolment form along with the supporting documents as mentioned above.
Step 6: You must personally visit the centre as the representative requires your biometrics.
Step 7: The representative at the centre will provide an acknowledgement slip as proof of your enrolment. It contains information such as a 14-digit enrolment number. This number can help trace the status of your application. You can quote the enrolment number in the place of Aadhaar number.
Step 8: Upon verification, Aadhaar card will be sent to your address via post. It can take up to 90 days (3 months) for you to receive the Aadhaar card.
