The Telangana Government has started distributing new ration cards to eligible beneficiaries, especially to newly married couples and their families. New ration cards were not issued in Telangana for for over 10 years, which deprived many citizens of its benefits. With the distribution of new ration cards in Telangana, over 2 lakh new beneficiaries were included under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The existing ration cardholders have to complete their e-KYC by visiting their nearest ration shops by 30 June 2025 to continue receiving ration benefits. The Telangana Government is also providing rations for three months, i.e. June, July and August 2025 at once in June so that beneficiaries need not travel to collect rations during monsoon months.
The Telangana government issues three Food Security Cards (FSC) to ensure access to subsidised food grains and serve as a critical support system for eligible families.
FSC cards are meant for families with moderate and stable incomes who do qualify for Priority House Hold (PPH) benefits. These cards are issued to beneficiaries covering all priority groups and are issued Priority House Hold (PPH) Cards to provide subsidised food grains and other essential commodities under the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA).
They are primarily issued to Below Povery Line (BPL) households based on specific criteria prescribed by the state government.
Designed for the most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged, AAY cards cater to individuals such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and those engaged in specific low-income occupations. Cardholders are entitled to a higher allocation of food grains at significantly subsidised rates, ensuring their basic nutritional needs are met.
Ration cardholders are eligible to receive benefits under the welfare schemes launched by the government. Individuals receiving benefits in Telangana from the Rythu Bandhu scheme and Aasara pensions under the previous government must apply for the six new welfare schemes launched by the current government by submitting a new application. The six new welfare schemes are: Mahalakshmi Scheme, Gruha Jyothi Scheme, Yuva Vikasam Scheme, Indiramma Indlu Scheme, Cheyutha Scheme, and Rythu Bharosa Scheme.
