PAN Card Correction Form: How To Make Correction In PAN Card Online?

A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a critical document required to file taxes and get tax refunds. It also serves as an identity proof of an individual or a company. Thus, any incorrect information on the PAN card could lead to problems.  

How to Make Corrections in a PAN Card?

You can apply for PAN card correction online or offline when there is any mistake or change in your PAN card details, such as name, date of birth, photo, signature, father's name, Aadhaar, gender, mobile number, email ID or address. However, you can apply for correction only when the following conditions are met:

  • When you have a PAN card.
  • When your personal or contact details are printed wrongly or it is changed.
  • When you have supporting documents containing the changed or correct details.

How to Apply for PAN Card Correction Online?

Follow the below steps to apply for a change of PAN card details online:

Step 1: Visit the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.

Step 2: Select the ‘Change/Correction in PAN card details’.

Step 3: Enter the ‘PAN Card’ number, fill in the details, and click the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 4: Your request will be registered, and you will receive a token or reference number on your email ID 

Step 5: Select the options you want to update (name, father's name, date of birth, gender, address, contact information).

Step 6: Enter the updated details and other required details and upload the documents. 

Step 7: Pay the required fees and submit the application. 

Step 8: You will receive an acknowledgement number. Note down the number since it will be required to check the status of the correction application.

How to Apply for PAN Card Correction Offline?

You can also get the details changed/corrected in your PAN card offline. Follow the below steps to apply for PAN card correction offline:

Step 1: Download the ‘Request For New PAN Card Or/ And Changes Or Correction in PAN Data’ application from. 

Step 2:  Fill in the details in the application. 

Step 3: Attach your signature and photograph to the application. 

Step 4:  Submit the form and the required documents to the nearest PAN centre.

Step 5: Pay the fees for PAN card update/correction. 

Step 6: You will get the acknowledgement number from which you can track the status of your PAN card update application.

  • Copy of PAN card.
  • Proof of identity, address and date of birth (as provided below).

Additional Documents Required to Change Name in PAN card

  • For married women - marriage invitation card, marriage certificate, or copy of passport showing husband’s name.
  • For individuals - publication of name change in the gazette.
  • For companies - ROC's certificate for a name change.
  • For partnership firms - Revised partnership deed.
  • For Association of Persons, trusts, Body of Individuals, or Artifical Judicial Persons - Revised registration, deed or agreement.
  • For minor name corrections like spelling correction, expansion of initials, etc. - Proof of identity containing corrected data.

Who Can Sign PAN Card Correction Form?

The following persons must sign the PAN card correction application:

  • Individual applicant
  • Karta, in the case of HUF
  • Director, in the case of a company
  • Authorised signatory, in the case of Association of Persons (AOP), Body of Individuals (BOI), local authority and artificial juridical person
  • Partner, in the case of a partnership firm or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)
  • Trustee, in the case of a trust
  • Representative assessee, in the case of a minor

Processing Fees and Charges For Pan Card Correction

The fee for PAN card correction when submitted offline is Rs.110. If the PAN card is to be dispatched outside India, the applicant should pay an additional dispatch fee of Rs.910.

How to Check PAN Card Correction Status?

You can check the status of your PAN card correction application online by following the below steps:

Step 1: Go to the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.

Step 2: Click the ‘Know Status of PAN application’ or ‘Track PAN card’ option.

Step 3: Enter the ‘Acknowledgement Number’ and Captcha code and click ‘Submit’.

The status of the correction application will be displayed on the screen.

Yes, you can change or update your PAN card details by filling out the PAN card correction application on the official website of NSDL or UTIITSL.

No, you will need to pay the PAN card correction fees, which vary from Rs. 50 to Rs. 1,017, depending on how you receive your PAN card.

Can I cancel my PAN correction application?

No, once you submit the PAN card correction form, you cannot cancel it. However, you can apply a fresh correction form. 

How many days will it take for PAN card correction online?

It takes around 15 days to get the corrected PAN card to your address by post.

Can I cancel my old PAN and apply for a new one?

No, you cannot cancel your old PAN card. You can only apply for changes or corrections to your personal or address details on your old PAN card. 

Can I change my PAN number online?

No, the PAN number cannot be changed once it is issued. You can only change your personal and address details in your PAN card.

How can I correct my PAN card name mistake?

You can correct your name on your PAN card through the following process:

  • Visit the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.
  • Select the ‘Change/Correction in PAN card details’.
  • Enter the ‘PAN Card’ number, fill in the other details, and click the ‘Submit’ button.
  • Enter the required details on the form.
  • Select the name option and enter the changed/updated name. 
  • Upload the required documents, pay the required fees and submit the application. 
  • You will receive an acknowledgement number.
  • Take a printout of the acknowledgement, attach the documents and send it to the NSDL office at Pune or UTIITSL offices in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi or Chennai in case of physical submission of the documents.
How to change address in PAN card?

Though addresses are not printed on PAN cards, it is required to send the hard copy of PAN card to the postal addresses. Thus, the address is mentioned in the PAN card application. The address can be updated or changed by following the below process:

  • Visit the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.
  • Select the ‘Change/Correction in PAN card details’.
  • Enter the ‘PAN Card’ number, fill in the other details, and click the ‘Submit’ button.
  • Enter the required details on the form.
  • Select the address option and enter the changed/updated address. 
  • Upload the required documents, pay the required fees and submit the application. 
  • You will receive an acknowledgement number.
  • Take a printout of the acknowledgement, attach the documents and send it to the NSDL office at Pune or UTIITSL offices in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi or Chennai in case of physical submission of the documents.

However, the address cannot be changed when PAN application forms are filled and submitted offline and authenticated using the Aadhaar OTP since, in such cases, the address listed in the Aadhaar database will be taken as the default address.
