A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a critical document required to file taxes and get tax refunds. It also serves as an identity proof of an individual or a company. Thus, any incorrect information on the PAN card could lead to problems.
You can apply for PAN card correction when there is any mistake or change in your name, address or date of birth in your PAN card online or offline. However, you can apply for correction only when the following conditions are met:
Follow the below steps to apply for a change of PAN card details online:
Step 1: Visit the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.
Step 2: Select the ‘Change/Correction in PAN card details’.
Step 3: Enter the ‘PAN Card’ number, fill in the other details, and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 4: Your request will be registered, and you will receive a token number on your email ID
Step 5: Next, enter your necessary details and your ‘Aadhaar card’ and click ‘Next’.
Step 6: Select the option you want to update (name, address or date of birth).
Step 7: Enter the updated details and other required details and upload the documents.
Step 8: Pay the required fees and submit the application.
Step 9: You will receive an acknowledgement number. Note down the number since it will be required to check the status of the correction application.
Step 10: Take a printout of the acknowledgement, attach the documents and send it to the following address when you apply on the NSDL website:
“Income Tax PAN Services Unit,
Protean eGov Technologies Limited,
4th Floor, Sapphire Chambers,
Baner Road, Baner, Pune - 411045”
When you apply on the UTIITSL portal, send the printout of the acknowledgement and documents to any one of the UTIITSL offices in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi or Chennai.

You can also get the name, address and date of birth changed/corrected in your PAN card offline. Follow the below steps to apply for PAN card correction offline:
Step 1: Download the ‘Request For New PAN Card Or/ And Changes Or Correction in PAN Data’ application from the NSDL e-Gov website or UTIITSL website.
Step 2: Fill in the details in the application.
Step 3: Attach your signature and photograph to the application.
Step 4: Submit the form and the required documents to the nearest PAN centre.
Step 5: Pay the fees for PAN card update/correction.
Step 6: You will get the acknowledgement number from which you can track the status of your PAN card update application.

The fee for PAN card correction when submitted offline is Rs.110. If the PAN card is to be dispatched outside India, the applicant should pay an additional dispatch fee of Rs.910.

You can check the status of your PAN card correction application online by following the below steps:
Step 1: Go to the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.
Step 2: Click the ‘Know Status of PAN application’ or ‘Track PAN card’ option.
Step 3: Enter the ‘Acknowledgement Number’ and Captcha code and click ‘Submit’.

Though addresses are not printed on PAN cards, it is required to send the hard copy of PAN card to the postal addresses. Thus, the address is mentioned in the PAN card application.

However, the address cannot be changed when PAN application forms are filled and submitted offline and authenticated using the Aadhaar OTP since, in such cases, the address listed in the Aadhaar database will be taken as the default address.
