Permanent Account Number (PAN) is an extremely important identity proof for your Income Tax filings. If details like your name, date of birth, photo, signature, father's name, Aadhaar, gender, mobile number, email ID, address or contact information are incorrect or changed, it is recommended to rectify and update the PAN card as soon as possible.

There may be mistakes in your name, parent's name or date of birth when your PAN card is printed. There may be changes in your address or name after your PAN card is issued. In such cases, your name, parents name, address or birth date must be changed and updated on your PAN card. The PAN card details can be changed online or offline.
You can update PAN card details online through the Protean PAN website or the UTIITSL website. If you have applied for a PAN card via the NSDL e-Gov website, then you need to apply for updating PAN details on that website. Similarly, when you have applied for a PAN card on the UTIITSL website, you need to update the PAN card details on the UTIITSL website.
Follow this step-by-step guide to make PAN card correction online:
Step 1: Visit the Protean PAN website.
Step 2: Now scroll down and locate the heading ‘Change/ Correction in PAN Data’ and click on ‘Apply Now’.
Step 3: You will now have to fill up this Online PAN Application. Let us see how to fill all the particulars:
Step 4: Once the request is registered, you will receive a Token Number on the Email ID provided here. This token number can be used to access the draft version of the form in case of session timeout.
Now, click on ‘Continue with PAN Application Form’.
Step 5: On this screen, you will see three options.
To complete the entire process online through Aadhaar OTP, select the first option ‘Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)’ for updating your PAN.
Step 6: If you need a new physical copy of the updated PAN card, select yes. Nominal charges will be applicable.
Step 7: Scroll down and enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
Step 8: Scroll down and update the required details. Remember to tick the relevant box for which correction or update is required. After filling up, click on ‘Next’ to proceed to the page ‘Contact and other details’
Step 9: Here, enter the new address or updated mobile number or email and proceed to the next page.
Step 10: Based on the particular you have updated, attach the proof document along with a copy of PAN.

Step 12: Scroll down and attach a copy of your ‘photograph’ and ‘signature’. Ensure the files are as per the specifications and sizes mentioned. Once done, click ‘Submit’.
Step 13: You will now see a preview of the form. Enter the first eight digits of your Aadhaar Number and ensure all other details filled in by you are correct.
Step 14: After submitting the PAN card correction form, the payment page will appear. Payment can be done through various payment gateways. After successful payment, you will receive a payment receipt.
Step 15: To complete the PAN card update/correction process, click ‘continue’. You will now have to complete the KYC process. Select the check box to accept the terms and conditions and click on ‘Authenticate’.
Step 16: An OTP will be generated and sent to your Aadhaar Registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and submit the online PAN application form.
Step 17: On the next screen, click on ‘continue’ with eSign.
Step 18: Here, accept the terms and conditions by ticking the box. Enter your Aadhaar number and click on ‘Send OTP’
Step 19: Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar Registered mobile number and verify. You can now download the acknowledgement form. The password to open this file is your date of birth in the format DD/MM/YYYY.
Please note: If you choose the ‘Forward application documents physically’ option in Step 5, you will have to take a print out of the acknowledgement and send the acknowledgement along with the attachment of the required documents to the following address by post:

Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL website.
Step 2: Click the ‘Click to Appy’ under the ‘Change/Correction in PAN Card’ tab.
Step 3: Click the ‘Apply for Change/Correction in PAN card details’ tab.
Step 4: Select the mode of submission of documents, enter your PAN number, select the PAN card mode and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 5: Once the request is registered, you will receive a reference number. Click on ‘OK’.
Step 6: Remember to tick the fields that requires to be updated or corrected. Enter the updated or correct personal details. Click on ‘Next Step’ once the details are entered.
Step 7: Address will be updated as per your Aadhaar card. Enter your contact details and click on ‘Next Step’.
Step 8: Enter the PAN number and verification and click the ‘Next Step’ button.
Step 9: Upload the documents and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 10: Verify the details on the form and click on the ‘Make Payment’ button.
Step 11: Select the mode of online payment and make the payment. A success message will be displayed once the payment is successfully made. Take a print out of the form.
It generally takes around 15 days for PAN correction. You will receive a text message on your registered mobile number when your PAN card is dispatched via post.
Please note: If If you choose the ‘Physical(Forward Application with documents physically)’ option in Step 4, you will have to take a print out of the form, affix photograph and signature, attach the documents to the form and post them to any one of the following nearest UTIITSL offices:

To file for PAN card correction offline, follow this step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Download the PAN card correction form online.
Step 2: Fill out the entire form and submit the same with essential documents at any nearest PAN centre.
Step 3: After your submission and payment, you will receive an acknowledgement slip at the centre.
Step 4: You will need to send this slip to the Income Tax PAN Service Unit of the NSDL within 15 days.

The fee for PAN card correction when submitted offline is Rs.110. If the PAN card is to be dispatched outside India, the applicant should pay an additional dispatch fee of Rs.910.
