In the Budget 2024, the government announced 3 new ‘Employment Linked Incentive’ (ELI) Schemes. These schemes provide benefits to employers and first-time employees enrolled for the EPF (Employees Provident Fund). However, activating UAN (Universal Account Number) and linking Aadhaar with the bank account is mandatory to receive the benefits under the ELI scheme.
Know more about how to activate UAN, link your Aadhaar bank account and the last date for doing it.
The EPFO has provided a deadline for all first-time employees to activate their UAN to receive ELI scheme benefits. The EPFO initially provided that the last date for UAN activation and Aadhaar-bank linking is 2 February 2025.
However, the EPFO has now extended the deadline for UAN activation and Aadhaar-bank account linking to 15 March 2025. The extension provides more time for employees to meet the requirements under the ELI scheme.
Here are the steps to activate UAN through the EPFO Member Sewa portal:
Step 1: Visit the EPFO Member Portal.
Step 2: Click ‘Activate UAN’ under the ‘Important Links’ section. Before activating it, obtain your UAN from your employer.
Step 3: Enter the required details, such as UAN number or Member ID, your name, date of birth, mobile number linked to your Aadhaar and captcha code.
Step 4: Agree to the Adhaar-based OTP verification process by ticking the consent box.
Step 5: Click on ‘Get Authorisation PIN’ to receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.
Step 6: Enter the OTP and click ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.
Once the UAN is activated, the EPFO will send you the password to your registered mobile number for logging into the PFO Member Portal.
You can link Aadhaar with your bank account in several ways, such as by logging into the bank’s net banking portal, the bank’s mobile app, sending SMS, calling customer care or visiting the bank branch. Check here for the detailed process to link your bank account with Aadhaar.
UAN activation is a mandatory condition for receiving the benefits provided to first-time employees under the ELI scheme. The scheme provides many monetary benefits to first-time employees in the formal sector, including employees in the manufacturing sector. Thus, it is mandatory that all first-time employees must activate their UAN within the deadline and link their Aadhaar with their bank account.
