The Punjab State Government issues a residence certificate, a document that proves the residential status of an individual in Punjab. To obtain a Punjab domicile certificate, a person must fulfil any one of the following conditions:

  • The parents of an individual are the permanent residents of Punjab.
  • An individual has lived in Punjab for a minimum of three years.
  • An individual possesses property in Punjab.
  • Women can apply after marriage when their husbands are residents of Punjab.

How to get a domicile certificate online in Punjab?

  • Visit the official Punjab government website.
  • Click on the ‘Apply Services’ option.
  • Select the ‘Department’ option under ‘Search By’, select ‘Department of Personnel’ under ‘Select Department’, and click ‘Search’.
  • Click the ‘Apply’ button against the ‘Punjab Residence certificate’ service.
  • Sign in to the Digital Punjab portal or click ‘Don’t have an account? Register Now’ button to create an account and log in.
  • After logging in, fill out the ‘Punjab Residence certificate’ application form, upload documents and ‘Submit’.

Applicants will get an application number through which they can track the application status.

How to get a domicile certificate offline in Punjab?

Applicants must visit the Tehsildar at the Revenue Department Office and fill out the Punjab ‘Punjab Residence certificate’ application form. They should submit the filled form with documents to the respective authority. They will get an acknowledgement/application number upon submission.

Documents required for domicile certificate in Punjab

  • Proof of immoveable property in Punjab (Copy of sale deed or Farad dead)
  • Place of birth proof in Punjab (Passport, Aadhaar card, Voter ID, PAN card, bank account passport, etc.)
  • School certificate
  • Self-declaration cum verification leaf attested by the Patwari, Sarpanch, Head of Department (HOD) or Municipal Counselor (MC)
  • Proof of identity and address (Passport, Aadhaar card, Voter ID, PAN card, bank account passport, etc.)
  • Any other relevant document 

How to check domicile certificate status online in Punjab?

  • Visit the official Punjab government website.
  • Click on the ‘Track Services’ option.
  • Enter the ‘Application ID’ and click ‘Submit’.
  • The status of the domicile application will be displayed.

The Punjab domicile certificate is valid for a lifetime.

  • Log in to the official Punjab government website.
  • Click on the ‘Certificate Download’ option.
  • Enter the ‘Application ID’, OTP and click ‘Download’.
  • The domicile certificate will get downloaded.

How many days are required to get a domicile certificate in Punjab?

Once the ‘Punjab Residence certificate’ application form is submitted offline or online, the respective authorities will verify the application and documents. Upon verification completion, the applicant will receive the Punjab domicile certificate in 15 days.

Is a domicile certificate compulsory in Punjab?

The Punjab domicile certificate in Punjab is compulsory for the following purposes:

  • To get admission in resident reservation quota in educational institutes.
  • To apply for the resident quota reservation in Punjab government services.
