Things to Keep in Mind When Closing HDFC Bank Credit Card

While closing a credit card of any Indian bank, including HDFC Bank, it is in the best interest of a cardholder to consider certain factors, which are as follows:

  • Credit Score

Closing an HDFC credit card, regardless of its age, can influence your credit score by altering your credit utilization ratio and average account age. Before proceeding with the HDFC credit card closure, evaluate how it might affect your credit score and ensure you're comfortable with the potential impact.

  • Unpaid Balance

The remaining outstanding balance on your HDFC credit card at the time of closure can negatively impact your credit score, leading to potential penalties like extra fees or interest charges. To avoid these consequences, ensure all dues are cleared before closing your account.

  • Reward Redemption

HDFC Bank offers various benefits like reward points and cashback to its credit cardholders. Closing your credit card means losing access to these perks. It’s recommended to redeem your reward points before closing your HDFC credit card to make the most of the benefits.

Consequences of Closing Your Credit Card

Closing an HDFC credit card is a personal decision, but it’s important to carefully weigh the consequences. It can impact your CIBIL score and disrupt the payment history, especially for those with a long-standing credit history. Be sure to assess the potential drawbacks before making your decision.

How to Reactivate a Closed or Cancelled HDFC Credit Card?

Follow the below steps to reactivate your closed or cancelled HDFC credit card

Step 1: Visit the official website of HDFC Bank.

Step 2: Download the HDFC Credit Card Reactivation form and fill it up carefully.

Step 3: Attach the supporting documents.

Step 4: Send the form via the post to the credit card division of the HDFC Corporate Office.

Once you submit your application, a bank representative will process it and verify the documents provided. Upon successful verification, HDFC Bank will proceed with reactivating your closed credit card.

Now that you know how to close your HDFC credit card using both online and offline methods, choose the option that best fits your needs. However, before proceeding, take time to carefully review all essential factors and potential consequences to ensure an informed decision.
